Not only were wind tunnels originally used for testing the aerodynamics of cars, they also provide an incredibly thrilling body flying experience. With wind speeds of 120 mph, the wind tunnel creates the sensation of freefall without the need to nosedive from a plane. Begin with a full safety briefing, before putting on a specialist flight suit and stepping into the tunnel. With an indoor skydiving instructor on hand to offer help and guidance throughout, hover in the air for two exhilarating sessions of body flying. For some lucky participants, the instructor will hop onto the airflow to show off some impressive freestyle aerobatic manoeuvres.

Availability

Available all year round except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. On weekends, bank holidays and weekdays during school holidays, availability is before 11am and after 7pm.

Weather

The tunnel is indoors and isn’t affected by the weather.

How long does the experience last?

Expect to be on-site for around one and a half hours, including a 20 minute safety briefing, kit issue (15 minutes), two 60 second body flying sessions each and a full debrief.

How many other people?

Training may be shared in a group of up to 12. All flights are held on a one-to-one basis in the wind tunnel with a fully qualified instructor – you won’t jump together, but will watch each other’s flights from the gallery.

Can I take people to watch?

Spectators are welcome and can watch the all action from the free viewing gallery. Facilities at the venue are excellent and make for a good family visit.

What do I wear?

No jewellery or collared shirts. Please wear tight-fitting lace-up trainers (not boots). If suitable footwear isn’t worn, it is compulsory to hire trainers from the venue. Jumpsuits and other equipment are provided. Lockers £1.

Are there any restrictions?

Minimum age 4. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Maximum weight is 18 stone. Anyone who’s reasonably fit can fly. If you’re pregnant, have heart, back or neck problems or have ever dislocated a shoulder, you can’t fly.
